Discussion/Presentation

A life on the run from the German state
Bernd Heidbreder, on the run from German justice for decades for trying to prevent the construction of a deportation prison, dies in Venezuela in 2021. While he searches for a way to cross the River of the Dead into the underworld, he spends his time talking about his life as an antifa in Berlin. His friends from the real world have written it down for him and turned it into a book. In addition to all kinds of bizarre encounters with other people stranded in limbo, Bernd gives us a few tips on how to deal with the growing fascization. Although he gained his experience in the 1990s, much of it is certainly transferable to the present day. The book is also a journey through autonomous politics of the 80s and 90s, from communal life, Kurdistan, revolutionary May Day, feminism, militancy and much more. We want to read from it and discuss what could still be useful from this narrative in the present day, and Thomas Walter, who lived in exile in Venezuela with Bernd Heidbreder and Peter Krauth, will also be at the event.
