The duo Joanne Baratta and Andreas Engler presents the concert “Époques” for violin and accordion

Sounds and rhythms create a moment of harmony and hope. All proceeds from the concert will benefit the NGO “Mediterranea Saving Humans.” The program features original arrangements of works by Astor Piazzolla and Arvo Pärt.

Mediterranea Rescue - Saving Humans
The Italian NGO Mediterranea was originally founded with the goal of documenting the situation and the humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean. In light of increasingly restrictive European migration policies, the organization expanded its efforts and is now actively involved in sea rescue operations. With its own large ships, Mediterranea is committed to rescuing refugees in distress.

Like other NGOs active in maritime rescue, Mediterranea faces significant political and police pressure and extreme harassment, particularly from the far-right Italian government led by Meloni. On multiple occasions, ships operated by Mediterranea and other NGOs have been detained and fined heavily simply for rescuing refugees and bringing them to the nearest port in accordance with international maritime law. Furthermore, ships are repeatedly attacked at gunpoint by the (Europe-funded!) so-called “Libyan Coast Guard.” In Libya, refugees face abuse, torture, or death. The NGO is also active in civil society to draw attention to this humanitarian catastrophe in the Mediterranean. Mediterranea is also active in providing survival aid and conducting documentation work in the West Bank and Ukraine. Every donation supports the rescue operations and helps save lives.
