The tour takes us through one of the central corridors of the former chemical and paint industry in Basel’s Klybeck district. Together with Hans-Georg Heinmann, we explore the neighborhood’s industrial history, gaining insight into its historical development and the daily lives and working conditions of its residents.

This area is currently the subject of intense struggles in connection with one of the largest urban renewal projects in the city of Basel, Klybeck+, a joint venture between Swiss Life and Rhystadt AG. Here, the financial interests of the investors on one side clash with the concerns of city residents on the other, who see the existing neighborhood ties, living spaces, and communities threatened by the displacement being driven forward.
