The Long Way Home (Ausgabe #2)

Culture/Arts

Welcome to the Long Way Home # 2!

The Long Way Home is a nighttime walk.
A collective act of strolling.
An intimate ritual and a deliberate detour.

We will meet on June 12, 2026, at 10 p.m. at the Meret-Oppenheim-Fountain behind Bahnhof SBB and take each other home one by one. At each home, we will take a short (or, if necessary, longer) break to warm up and have a little refreshment before heading back out onto the street.

It is possible that we will all be back home after three hours – but we may also walk until dawn. Basically, perseverance and a willingness to potentially spend a sleepless night are desirable. However, if it becomes too much, too cold, or too strenuous for you along the way, you are of course welcome to drop out earlier (or take a power nap at the next stop).

This walking costs nothing and registration is not necessary. Warm clothing and warm, comfortable running shoes are important. In addition, each participant should be prepared to offer a moment of hospitality and a little refreshment in their home – this is not about fancy residences or delicacies, but basic regeneration.

// The format was created in 2003 by Zurich artist San Keller – for a whole year, he met once a month at New York's Grand Central Station with a group of people to walk them home until only he himself remained. We are now bringing this format to Basel.
