9. October
The Long Way Home
A collective act of strolling.
An intimate ritual.
An ode to the detour.
We’ll meet on October 9, 2026, at 10:00 p.m. at the start of the Dreirosen park (across from tram stop 8) and walk each other home, one by one. At each home, we’ll take a short (or longer, if needed) break to warm up and have a light snack before heading back out onto the street.
It’s possible that we’ll all be back home after three hours—but we might also keep going until dawn. Basically, stamina and a willingness to endure a potentially sleepless night are welcome. But if it gets to be too much, too cold, or too exhausting along the way, you’re of course welcome to drop out early (or take a power nap at the next stop).
It’s important to bring warm clothes for the cool night and comfortable running shoes. It would also be nice if every participant were willing to offer a moment of hospitality and a small snack at their home—this isn’t about fancy homes or special delicacies, but rather about basic refreshment.
// The project was launched in 2003 by Zurich-based artist San Keller—for an entire year, he met once a month at New York’s Grand Central Station with a group of people to walk them home until only he remained. We’ve also been organizing this project in Basel since this year.
