«Unter uns – Erkundungen im Zwischenraum» Fotografie-Ausstellung von Christian Flierl

Culture/Arts

In the exhibition, Christian Flierl, photographer, biologist and co-founder of BelleVue, examines the areas of contact between the apparent opposition of “culture” and “nature”.

The five groups of works, created between 2007 and 2024, provide insights into those areas of transition where the appropriation and rationalization of nature by humans manifests itself; but they also show traces of the reconquest and retransformation of human impositions by nature.

In “Among Us” we encounter such in-between spaces in an exemplary way, when urban and urban landscapes meet nature or what we understand by nature; for the “wild, free nature” has long since been shaped to suit our needs. Other groups of works, however, also show a subtle reversal of the relationship between man and nature: the carvings on tree bark have been scarred over time and now form a series of mysterious characters; or we recognize forms and relics of buildings near the coast that have been transformed back into something organic and belonging to the sea by the eternal washing of the water.

And inevitably we ask ourselves: what is natural, what is man-made?
By quickly capturing a moment or meticulously exploring a place photographically, Christian Flierl creates a contrast - also with humor and irony - in which the problematic consequences of human activity become apparent.

But the works do not remain
