We offer an established platform for contemporary photography, regularly presenting works by well-known photographers and young talents to a wide audience in our exhibition space. The events are planned and organized by photographers or interested parties who are passionate about photography. We work on a voluntary basis and are organized as a non-profit association with 200 members, 30 of whom are active. For 10 years, we have been organizing a photographically diverse, exciting and challenging programme of exhibitions and events for professionals, but also for people interested in photography who realize their own projects within the framework of BelleVue.

In Switzerland, Europe and many places throughout the world, migrants are judged “unwelcome”. Arriving people are rejected, isolated, administered and locked away. Somebody who wants to fight against this, who is searching for reliable information, is confronted with an impenetrable jungle of laws, orders and official despotism. Medias publish mostly superficial articles, repor- ted always from the same presumptuous perspective. Structures and conditions should not be questioned – we place a totally different demand on this newspaper!

face it: more than informing and commenting

In this newspaper there will be place for critical and self-determined texts written by people who no longer want to go along with a migration regime that categorizes, oppresses and exploits. By people who have had enough of a society who grants privileges and excludes, who want to rise their voice – silently and cautious, aloud and angry. By people who want to choose freely with whom they want to live with and in which manner and where their life should happen. People who demand this for everybody – open and in solidarity.

deal with it: think along, exchange and intervene

The point of this newspaper is to enforce awareness and to come into action against any illegalisation, discrimination and exclusion. Contribute with your own texts to criticize fundamentally all the social, economic and political structures that back up the migration regime. Different kinds of contributions are welcome – apart from reports and articles there will be place for creati- ve inputs such as pictures, drawings, comics and poems. All the contributions come out in the original language and with an English translation.

Mit aktiven Sektionen in Basel, Winterthur und Zürich setzen wir uns in den Bereichen Arbeitskampf, Frauenkampf, internationale Solidarität und politischer Widerstand in Theorie und Praxis ein. Wir verbinden diese verschiedene Kämpfe und organisieren Veranstaltungen und unterstützen antikapitalistischen Widerstand auf der Strasse.

Das Holzrock Open Air ist ein linksautonomes Musik- und Kulturfestival. Das Festival wird von unterschiedlichen Menschen ehrenamtlich nach dem DIY (do-it-yourself) Prinzip organisiert. In monatlich stattfindenden Plenen kann sich jede*r einbringen, dabei streben wir in Grundsatzentscheidungen einen Konsens an. Die Festivalorga steht das ganze Jahr über für interessierte Mitwirkende und neue Ideen offen.

Das Holzrock soll ein diskriminierungsfreier Ort der Vielfalt sein, in dem Grenzen anderer respektiert werden und sich jede*r unabhängig von Herkunft und Genderidentität frei entfalten kann. Wir wollen einen nachhaltigen Raum für respektvolles und bewusstes Verhalten gegenüber Mensch, Tier und Natur schaffen. Bei uns herrscht kein Konsumzwang. Es geht nicht um Profit, sondern darum, dass möglichst viele Menschen ein schönes Festival zusammen gestalten und erleben können. Das Holzrock entsteht miteinander – füreinander, weil es Spaß macht die Welt selbst zu gestalten, deshalb verstehen wir uns nicht als Dienstleistende. Unser Ziel ist es Subkultur zu fördern und die regionale Kulturszene zu unterstützen sowie einen Raum für politische Ideen und Diskussionen zu schaffen.

Entsanden ist das Holzrock aus der Punk Bewegung Ende der 80er Jahre und die Energie schwingt immernoch im schnellen Tackt. Heute ist das Musikprogramm aber diverser und experimenteller als je zuvor - vom feministischen Hiphop bis zum kratzigen 80ies Wave oder stampfigen Techno des Nachts gibts für alle Ohren etwas!

The history of the displacement in Basel is long and it continues. The wrecking ball is cutting deep aisles into our city, through which the cold wind of displacement is blowing.

Who wants that?

Try to explain to a child why it is fair that an investor who has never walked through a house, never lived there and never worked there can now decide that those who have invested a lot of time, attention and energy in this place must be removed:

Because the world is unjust?
Because it is capitalist?
Because we subordinate ourselves to the market?
No.
Our city is not for sale.

People in this City have the right to help shape the urban space, regardless of the origin or size of their wallet. We fight, together and for all.

Collective action

Over many years the self-organized groups and venues in this city have built independent structures which are not oriented towards profit increase or prestige of the people who co-organize them, and they enable many to have an income and projects on an equal footing. Organizing as a collective allows us to challenge internal hierarchies again and again and to fill the opening spaces and possibilities with critical content. Helping neighbors and other support work is lived solidarity.

Stay collective

Many of you used and still use these different spaces, as guests or customers, as visitors or friends, to organize politically. Now it is about helping the collectives to get over a difficult time and to prevent these structures from breaking away. In order to support each other as spaces, we hereby start a common fund for collective preservation. Wherever there is an emergency, the collected donations will be used directly and according to the most urgent need and necessity to pay the bills. Together we can keep these places alive for all who use and run them!
