Filmscreening und Q&A – BERLIN UTOPIEKADAVER

Film

In cooperation with the Human Rights Film Festival, Zeit_Raum_Forum is showing Johannes Blume's film BERLIN UTOPIEKADAVER at the Neues Kino.

When: Tuesday evening, September 23, 2025
Doors open: 6:30 p.m.
Film starts: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Neues Kino Basel, Klybeckstrasse 247, 4057 Basel
Ticket price: Students 5 CHF / regular price 10 CHF

BERLIN UTOPIEKADAVER accompanies the last left-wing autonomous housing projects in Berlin. They are to be dissolved and their residents forced to leave the city.
A “wave of evictions” is sweeping Berlin. The film shows different generations of a subculture who talk about themselves, fight for their existence, but also dance and cry together.

Following the screening, representatives of the Human Rights Film Festival Zurich will talk to Jacob Geuder about the struggle for autonomous, affordable, and self-managed spaces. The exchange builds bridges between the Berlin projects shown and urban conflicts on the ground in Basel.

Jacob Geuder combines a scientific perspective with many years of activist engagement. He researches urban development, gentrification, and right to the city movements worldwide and is himself active in political and civic society contexts.

Critical Mass Basel

Games/Sports

The Critical Mass is when enough people on bicycles take to the streets and become the traffic. It's not organised and we simply use the public streets to have a good time.

Antifaschistischer Herbst - OAT Basel

Discussion/Presentation

As part of Antifascist Autumn, we take a critical look at the growing right-wing youth scenes in Switzerland.

The shift to the right is palpable. Right-wing groups spread hatred and incitement and aim to divide society. But we stand against this in an organized, united, and determined manner.

Together, we analyze:
– Where do these scenes come from?
– What role do they play in the shift to the right in society?
– And how can we counter them in concrete terms?

When? Friday, September 26, 7:00 p.m.
Where? Location on request: Insta-DM to @oat_basel

We look forward to seeing you! Alerta!

Wear a mask and your face grows to fit it

Exhibition

Fearing ridicule, the soldier in George Orwell's “Shooting an Elephant” acts as his oversized mask—his role as an imperialist—dictates: he kills the peaceful grazing elephant for no reason. The inexorable sequence of events leading to this tragic end reveals his mask and the constraints it imposes on his actions.

Workshop: Geschlechtliche Vielfalt – mit Fokus auf trans und nicht-binäre Menschen

Course/Workshop

(open from 12:30 p.m.)
Workshop: Gender diversity – with a focus on trans and non-binary people (in German, whisper translations possible)

Led by Freddy Eberhardt

This workshop is about gender diversity. Participants will learn what it means to be trans or non-binary and gain insight into different ways of life. Together, we will also examine our own approach to gender and explore it further. The goal is to develop greater understanding and promote a conscious approach.

Freddy Eberhardt (no pronouns/she) works in the field of preparation and sexual education and specializes in making body knowledge visible, questioning normative ideas about gender and health, and opening up new approaches to sexuality, physicality, and education.

Registration with Freddy: f_eberhardt(ät)online(punkt)de

Further information:

The workshop is free of charge.
Please donate something to the feminist library to cover the space costs!
Please arrive a little early – we start on time!
Snacks (gluten-free, low-histamine, vegan) will be provided!
The workshop will be held in German. Whispered translations can be arranged together if necessary.

Books of the feminist library can be borrowed.

Accessibility:

The library and gender-neutral toilet are on the ground floor and are wheelchair accessible.
However, this is currently difficult with larger models due to the rather narrow entrance and the construction site on the street. The kitchen on the ground floor can be accessed via a steep ramp or has two steps.
There are sofas and sturdy chairs without armrests.
Non-alcoholic drinks are available for a donation.
The house is non-smoking.
